Retraction Notice: On behalf of the Editorial Committee of the Asian Medical Journal and Alternative Medicine (AMJAM), we regret to announce that the following article published in the 25th volume and 2nd issue of AMJAM during May to August 2025 as a Special Article is hereby retracted.1

Reason for Retraction: Following publication, the Editorial Committee identified that substantially similar versions of this article had been published concurrently in multiple journals as part of the 2025 World Kidney Day international dissemination initiative. The article has been submitted to and/or published in the other 5 medical journals prior to submission to AMJAM on April 9th, 2025. Some of the other published versions included a statement explaining the concurrent-republication arrangement and cited the reference version published in Kidney International. However, the manuscript submitted to AMJAM and the resulting AMJAM publication did not include an equivalent disclosure or citation. At the time of submission and publication, the journal did not have a documented record confirming that the AMJAM publication formed part of an approved concurrent-republication arrangement. The corresponding author was notified of the journal's findings and proposed decision and was invited to identify any factual inaccuracies by the stated deadline. No response was received. The Editorial Committee concluded that the absence of disclosure and the omission of the concurrent-republication statement did not meet the journal's requirements concerning transparency, originality declarations, and redundant publication and did not follow the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidance.2 The Committee therefore decided to retract the article.

This retraction concerns the submission, disclosure, and publication process. The journal is not asserting that the article's scientific content is fabricated or otherwise unreliable, nor does it find that the authors' participation in the broader World Kidney Day initiative was itself improper. The concern is that AMJAM was not provided with sufficient information and documentation to review and approve the arrangement through its standard editorial procedures.

AMJAM recognizes the value of international public-health initiatives such as World Kidney Day and remains open to participating in similar initiatives in the future. Such participation should be managed through the journal's standard editorial procedures, including advance disclosure of the republication plan, documented editorial approval, citation of the reference publication, appropriate selection of article type, and confirmation of the necessary licenses and permissions.
