Abstract
Scabies is a parasitic skin infestation caused by Sarcoptes scabiei var hominis. It occurs worldwide and commonly in children. Epidemic outbreaks have been reported. The worldwide prevalence has been estimated at 300 million cases per year. It is a major public health problem in many countries and transmitted most often by direct skin-to-skin contact with an infested person. Pruritus and skin rashes are the common manifestations. Complication including secondary bacterial infection, commonly caused by Streptococcus pyogenes or Staphylococcus aureus may occur.
